This examination set out to review the extent to which the terms of the existing common contract were implemented in the acute hospital sector.

This is a report querying what steps were taken at the outset of the Post-Mortem Inquiry and during its course by the Department to reduce the exposure of the State to cost escalation and to ensure timely reporting, what lessons have been learned in regard to the conduct of this Inquiry in the areas of scope setting, methodology and the establishment of review milestones and reporting deadlines, and the extent to which such lessons have been or are capable of being applied to other Inquiries, best estimate of the costs incurred by the Health Service Executive and of hospitals in connection with the Inquiry.
